Replaces BL-8060 and BL-8070
The Nexa BL-8080 is a hands-free desktop 2D barcode scanner with a USB interface, supplied in black under part number BL8080USBB. It is designed to power through barcodes in busy store environments: it sits on the counter, reads standard 1D barcodes as well as 2D codes such as QR, and will also read a code from a smartphone display. This is the fifth generation of the Nexa BL-80x0 series of desktop scanners, so it is a proven, refined and reliable unit rather than a first-generation design.
Replaces the Nexa BL-8060 and BL-8070
The BL-8080 supersedes both the BL-8060 and the BL-8070, which are now discontinued. It is the direct replacement for either model: the same hands-free desktop format, the same USB connection and the same 100mm-class counter footprint, so it drops into an existing till position without changing how your staff work. If you are replacing a failed unit or standardising a fleet that still runs BL-8060 or BL-8070 scanners, the BL-8080 is the model to order.
Why choose the Nexa BL-8080
Reads 1D and 2D codesHandles standard 1D retail barcodes plus 2D codes including QR, so you are covered as suppliers and promotions move to 2D.
Scans phone screensReads codes straight off a smartphone display, which matters for vouchers, loyalty cards and click-and-collect pickups.
Hands-free presentationSits on the counter and reads as you present the item, so both hands stay free for packing and payment.
Fifth-generation platformThe fifth generation of the Nexa BL-80x0 desktop series, a refined and proven design rather than a first release.
Compact on the counterA stylish, compact desktop unit that fits the limited bench space around a till without crowding the payment area.
3 year warrantyBacked by a 3 Years Return to Base warranty, with Nexa standing behind the BL-80x0 series on a replacement basis.
How it fits your workflow
A presentation scanner changes the rhythm of a counter. Instead of picking up a handheld gun, aiming it and pulling a trigger, your staff move the item past the scanner and keep going. Over a long queue that saves a second or two per line item and, more importantly, it frees both hands for bagging, wrapping and handling payment. Because the BL-8080 uses a 2D area imager rather than a laser, the barcode does not need to be squared up with a scan line, and a customer can simply hold their phone in front of the unit to redeem a voucher or loyalty code. It connects over USB and typically behaves as keyboard input, so for most sites setup is a matter of plugging it in.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Nexa BL-8080 read QR codes?
Yes. The BL-8080 is a 2D scanner, so alongside standard 1D retail barcodes it reads 2D codes including QR. That covers 2D codes printed on packaging and promotional material as well as codes shown on a screen.
Can it scan a barcode from a phone or tablet screen?
Yes. Reading from smartphone displays is one of the reasons to choose a 2D imager over an older laser scanner. It lets you accept discount vouchers, loyalty cards, membership codes and click-and-collect pickup codes straight from the phone.
Do I have to press a trigger to scan?
No. This is a hands-free desktop scanner, so it sits on the counter and reads the code when you present the item in front of it. That keeps both hands free for bagging and taking payment, which is why presentation scanners suit high-volume counters.
How does the BL-8080 connect to my till?
Over USB. This is the USB variant of the BL-8080, supplied under part number BL8080USBB, so it plugs into a USB port on your POS terminal or PC. There is no wireless pairing to manage and no batteries to charge.
Will it work with my POS software?
Most likely, though it is worth checking. Barcode scanners like this normally present themselves to the computer as keyboard input, which means the scanned code is typed into whatever field has focus and no special driver is needed. Some POS platforms still publish a supported-hardware list, so check yours or call POS Sales on 1300 026 062 and we will confirm before you order.
What is the difference between the BL-8080, the BL-8070 and the BL-8060?
They are successive generations of the same Nexa BL-80x0 hands-free desktop line. The BL-8060 was the third generation and the model that moved the range from laser scanning to 2D imaging, the BL-8070 followed it, and the BL-8080 is the fifth generation. Both the BL-8060 and the BL-8070 are now discontinued, and the BL-8080 replaces them as the current model in the line.
I already use a BL-8060 or BL-8070. Is the BL-8080 a direct replacement?
Yes. It is the same hands-free desktop format with the same USB connection, so it sits in the same spot on the counter and connects the same way. Because scanners of this type normally present as keyboard input, in most cases you can unplug the old unit and plug in the BL-8080 without touching your POS configuration. If your setup uses custom programming or prefixes and suffixes on the old scanner, call POS Sales on 1300 026 062 and we will talk through carrying that across.
Is a 2D imager better than a laser scanner?
For most retail counters, yes. A 2D area imager has no moving scan mechanism, so there is nothing inside to wear out the way the oscillating mirror in a laser scanner does. It also reads a code at any rotation rather than needing the barcode lined up, and it can read from screens, which a laser cannot do at all.
Is the BL-8080 suitable for a pharmacy or bottle shop?
Yes. Nexa positions the BL-8080 for busy store environments and names pharmacies, specialty retailers, bottle shops and convenience stores specifically. Those sites tend to have small, awkward counters and steady queues, which is exactly where a compact hands-free scanner earns its place.
Application use cases
- Pharmacy dispensaries and front-of-shop counters where scripts, retail lines and loyalty cards all pass the same till.
- Bottle shops scanning multi-packs and singles at pace without lifting a handheld gun.
- Convenience stores with a short counter and a steady queue, where hands-free scanning keeps the line moving.
- Specialty retail that needs to read both printed barcodes and codes shown on a phone.
- Click-and-collect and loyalty redemption where the pickup or voucher code arrives by email or app and is scanned from the screen.
- Fleet standardisation across several stores already running Nexa BL-80x0 desktop scanners.
