Godex Label Printers
Godex Label Printers from POS Sales Australia
Godex builds barcode and label printers in three families that cover most of what a business needs to label: a direct thermal desktop range for shipping and retail work, a thermal transfer desktop range for labels that have to survive handling, and an industrial range for continuous production. All of them ship with USB, serial and Ethernet as standard, so they drop into an existing setup without an adapter.
The three ranges
- DT series, desktop direct thermal. The DT200+, DT230+ and DT4X+ print without a ribbon, at 203 or 300 dpi and up to 178 mm per second. Best for shipping labels, pick slips and short life retail tickets.
- RT series, desktop thermal transfer. The RT200, RT200i, RT230, RT230i, RT700i+, RT700x, RT730, RT730i+ and RT863i all run both ribbon and direct thermal media. Widths run from 54 mm to 108 mm and resolution from 203 dpi up to 600 dpi on the RT863i, which is the one to reach for when a label carries very small text or a dense 2D code.
- ZX series, industrial. The ZX420i+, ZX430i+, ZX1200Xi and ZX1300Xi are built for volume, with the ZX1200Xi running up to 356 mm per second across a 104 mm print width. These are the machines for a packing line that labels all day.
Ribbon or no ribbon
Direct thermal needs no consumable but the print fades with heat, sunlight and abrasion, which is fine for a parcel that will be delivered this week. Thermal transfer fuses ink from a ribbon onto the label and lasts for years, which is what you want on asset tags, chemical labels, cold store stock and anything that will be handled repeatedly. The RT and ZX ranges do both, so a single machine can cover the two jobs. Browse by method instead if that is how you are deciding: direct thermal label printers and thermal transfer label printers.
Width, resolution and speed
Match the print width to your widest label first. The 2 inch models top out around 54 to 57 mm, which suits product tickets, shelf labels and jewellery tags, while the 4 inch models reach 104 to 108 mm for shipping and carton labels. Then choose resolution: 203 dpi is right for ordinary barcodes and text, 300 dpi for small type and tight 2D codes, and 600 dpi for fine detail on a small label. Speed matters only once volume does, which is where the industrial range earns its price.
Adding wireless
The DT and RT printers take an optional Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module, so a printer that started life cabled to a PC can be moved onto the network or paired with a tablet later. The module is listed in this category and in label printer accessories.
Media and ribbons
Stock the consumables with the hardware. Ribbon grade should match the label: wax for paper, wax resin for coated stock, resin for synthetics. You will find both sides under label printer ribbons and label rolls.
Warranty
The Godex range carries 24 Months Return to Base, excluding consumable wear parts, which means the thermal print head and the platen roller. Both are replaceable items rated by distance printed rather than by time, and both last longer if the print path is cleaned on a schedule.
