The Nexa ZED 2952 takes the cord out of the checkout or the picking run. It is a handheld 2D imager that pairs with a multi-function cradle: drop it in to charge, or leave it sitting there and keep scanning hands-free off the stand. Wireless is dual-mode, so it runs on 2.4GHz or Bluetooth, and either way it holds a link up to 100 metres from the cradle in open space. The imaging engine reads 1D and 2D codes down to 3 mil at 60 frames per second, including the scuffed and badly printed labels that stop cheaper scanners. A 2600 mAh battery gives at least 20 hours of continuous use at one scan every five seconds, which is a full shift and then some.

What you get

Twenty hours on a chargeThe 2600 mAh battery is rated for at least 20 hours of continuous scanning at one scan every five seconds. It will see out a long shift without a top-up.
Up to 100 metres of rangeDual-mode wireless, 2.4GHz or Bluetooth, with a 100 metre open-space link to the cradle. Enough to walk the aisles, the stockroom or the yard without losing the connection.
Cradle charges and scansThe multi-function cradle is not just a charger. Leave the scanner in it and it works as a hands-free presentation scanner, so one unit covers both jobs on the counter.
Reads damaged labelsA CMOS engine at 640 x 480 and 60 frames per second, reading down to 3 mil with a depth of field from 60 to 300 mm. Worn, crumpled and low-contrast codes still read first time.
Every code you will meetAll the usual 1D retail symbologies plus QR, Data Matrix, PDF417, Aztec, MaxiCode and Hanxin, so vouchers, loyalty codes and GS1 DataBar labels are all covered.
IP42 and sunlight proofSealed to IP42 against dust and dripping water, rated from minus 10 to 50 degrees, and readable in up to 100,000 lux, which is direct sunlight.

The cradle does two jobs

Most cordless scanners give you a charging base and nothing else. The ZED 2952 cradle is a presentation scanner as well: park the gun in it and present items with both hands free, lift it out when you need to reach a pallet or a bulky box. The cradle is 145 x 68 x 169 mm and weighs 277 g, so it has enough mass to stay put when you drop the scanner back in one-handed.

Where it fits

  • Retail and supermarket. Scan at the register, then walk the shelves for price checks and stocktakes without swapping devices.
  • Hospitality. Keep the scanner on the cradle for table service and takeaway dockets, and lift it out when a delivery turns up at the back door.
  • Warehouse and logistics. A 100 metre link and a 20 hour battery cover a picking run, a receiving dock or a yard without a cable or a mid-shift recharge.

Frequently asked questions

How far from the cradle can I go?
Up to 100 metres in open space, in either 2.4GHz or Bluetooth mode. That is the clear line-of-sight figure from the data sheet, so treat it as the ceiling rather than the number you will see through a block of brick walls or steel racking. For a shop floor, a stockroom or a loading dock it is more than enough.
How long does the battery last?
The 2600 mAh battery is rated for 20 hours or more of continuous use, measured at one scan every five seconds. In practice that is a full shift with room to spare, and the cradle tops it up between shifts. If the scanner lives on the cradle between customers it effectively never runs flat.
Can it scan while it is sitting in the cradle?
Yes, and that is the point of the multi-function cradle. Leave the ZED 2952 in the stand and it behaves like a presentation scanner, so you can present items to it with both hands free. Pick it up when you need to reach a bulky item or walk away from the counter.
Does it read QR codes and codes off a phone screen?
It reads QR, Data Matrix, PDF417, Micro PDF417, Aztec, MaxiCode and Hanxin alongside the full 1D retail set. A 2D imager of this type normally reads from a phone or tablet display as well, which is what you need for vouchers, loyalty cards and click-and-collect codes. Nexa does not state screen scanning explicitly on the ZED 2952 data sheet, so if that is the main reason you are buying, call POS Sales on 1300 026 062 and we will confirm it first.
Will it work with my POS software?
Most likely. The cradle presents over USB-HID, which means the scanned code is typed into whatever field has focus, exactly as if someone typed it on the keyboard. No driver, no integration work. USB-VCP is there as a virtual COM port if your software expects a serial device instead. Some cloud POS platforms publish an approved-hardware list, so check yours if it does.
What is the difference between 2.4GHz and Bluetooth mode?
Both give you the same 100 metre open-space range. 2.4GHz uses the supplied cradle as the receiver and is the simplest option, because there is nothing to pair. Bluetooth is the one to use if you want to connect to a device without plugging the cradle in. If you are planning to pair directly to a tablet rather than through the cradle, give us a call first so we can confirm the setup for your device.
How tough is it?
The scanner is rated IP42, so it is sealed against dust and dripping water, and it runs from minus 10 to 50 degrees C. It also reads in up to 100,000 lux, which is full sunlight, so an outdoor loading bay is not a problem. It is a retail and light-industrial scanner rather than a rugged forklift-mount unit.
What is in the box and what is the warranty?
The scanner, the multi-function charging cradle and a USB cable. It is covered by a 36 Months Return to Base warranty, which is the standard Nexa term across the ZED range and longer than most scanners at this price.
