The terminal itself is the familiar RT-2015, a super slim bezel free 15 inch panel at 1024 x 768 with projected capacitive touch, built on an Intel Bay Trail J1900 quad core up to 2.42GHz with 2MB of cache, in a die-cast aluminium housing with nothing moving inside it. It holds a 128GB SSD, arrives with Windows 10 IoT LTSC 64 bit already loaded, and offers three serial ports, one USB 3.0, three USB 2.0, LAN, VGA and a mini DisplayPort.
Why 8GB has stopped being optionalA till that only runs a till application is comfortable on 4GB, and plenty still do. What has changed is everything else on the counter: cloud back office in a browser, a payment client, a loyalty app. Run those beside the point of sale on 4GB and the terminal starts swapping to disk at exactly the moment a queue forms. Why would I buy a terminal without a base?
Because it is going onto something else: an arm, a wall bracket, a till drawer mount or a fitted counter. A base you do not use is cost and counter space for nothing.
What do I need to mount it?

Is 8GB worth it over the 4GB build?
Not for a terminal that opens one till program and nothing else. It starts to matter the moment a browser based back office, a loyalty client or a payment application shares the machine, which is where four gigabytes begins swapping to disk.

Yes. Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 64 bit is preloaded. Only the base is omitted.
How is it cooled?
The aluminium body is the heatsink. Heat leaves through the casting instead of being blown out by a fan, which is why there is no vent anywhere on it.
