17 Inch Fanless Touch Terminal
POSIFLEX XT3817G2 J6412 Q Core 8G 128G SSD PCAP Win IoT 2021
Seventeen inches of bezel free touch and a Windows IoT build chosen for a long deployment rather than a short one. A till meant to be bought once.

Two questions decide a till, and neither of them is the processor. The first is how big the screen needs to be, which sounds trivial until someone is working a fifteen item order on a crowded table map. The second is what operating system it runs, because that is what determines whether the machine behaves the same way in year four as it did in week one. The XT-3817 G2 answers both the same way: a 17 inch bezel free capacitive panel, and a Windows IoT build rather than a consumer edition. The hardware underneath is a fanless Intel J6412 with 8 GB and a 128 GB SSD, and the full figures are in the specifications below.
What the extra two inches buy
More buttons, or bigger onesSeventeen inches against fifteen is about 28 percent more area. That is either more items on screen at once or the same items with targets big enough to hit reliably during a rush.
Table maps stop being crampedA hospitality floor plan is the layout that suffers most on a small screen. The difference between squinting at a plan and reading it is usually this.
Easier for shared countersWhere several people of different ages and eyesight use the same till all day, screen size is an accessibility decision rather than a luxury.
Capacitive, not resistiveProjected capacitive touch responds to a light contact the way a phone does. Staff who have used a resistive screen that needs a firm press notice the difference within an hour.
Bezel free wipes cleanThere is no raised rim around the glass, so the whole front wipes down in one pass. On a food counter that is a hygiene point, not a styling one.
It still fits the same baseThe Generation 7e base and mounting carry across the Posiflex family, so a site already running 15 inch units can add a 17 inch without new brackets.
Why an IoT build rather than ordinary Windows
This terminal ships Windows IoT 64 bit 2021. An IoT Enterprise release is a long term servicing build: it receives security updates but not the feature updates that rearrange the interface, and it is licensed for a fixed purpose device rather than a general desktop.
That distinction is the whole point on a till. A consumer Windows build will at some stage decide to install a feature update, restart, and change something about how the machine behaves, and it will do it at the worst possible moment. A servicing build will not. It is also why a 2021 release is still being shipped on new hardware: the date is the release, not the age of the support.
Fanless, and what that is worth
There is no fan in this terminal and no spinning drive. The practical effect is that there is nothing inside it that wears out mechanically, and nothing pulling air, grease and flour through the electronics for years.
On a counter that matters more than any specification on the list. The usual way a till dies is not a failed processor, it is a fan that clogged, then ran hot, then took something else with it. Removing the fan removes that whole chain.
Working out whether it suits your site
- Measure the counter. A 17 inch terminal on a 7e base wants more depth than a 15 inch one. Check what is behind it, particularly where a printer and a drawer already sit.
- Check your POS software. The hardware runs anything Windows, but your vendor may certify specific builds. Ask them about Windows IoT Enterprise 2021 before you order, and tell us what they say.
- Count what plugs in. Four serial ports, eight USB and two LAN is a generous set, but it is worth listing the peripherals now rather than discovering a shortfall on install day.
- Decide on the second network port. If card traffic has to stay on its own segment, the second LAN port removes a switch from the counter.

Before you order
- Confirm the Windows build. This is the IoT 2021 release. If your software vendor has certified only on Windows 11, tell us and we will look at the 15 inch 2024 build or ask Posiflex what else is available at 17 inch.
- Plan the peripherals. Four RS232, two USB 3.0, six USB 2.0, two LAN and a VGA output. Send us the list of what is plugged into the current till and we will check it against that before anything ships.
- Think about the image. On a multi site rollout it is worth building one machine the way you want it and cloning it. Tell us how many and we will talk through how other operators have handled it.
- Allow for the base depth. The Generation 7e base is stable rather than small. Measure the counter depth before committing to a row of them.

Frequently asked questions
Is Windows IoT the same as normal Windows?
For running software, effectively yes: it is the same Windows underneath and the same applications install. The difference is licensing and servicing. An IoT Enterprise release is licensed for a fixed purpose device and is a long term servicing build, so it takes security updates without the feature updates that change how the machine behaves.
Will my POS software run on it?
Almost certainly, because it is standard 64 bit Windows. The question worth asking your vendor is not whether it runs but which builds they certify, since some support contracts are specific about it. Tell us what they say and we will confirm the right part before you order.
Why 17 inch instead of 15?
About 28 percent more screen area. That is the difference between a table map you read and one you squint at, and between touch targets that are comfortable during a rush and ones that are not. If the till only ever rings up a handful of items, 15 inch saves money and counter depth.
Can it drive a second screen?
Yes, through the VGA output, which is the usual way a customer facing display or a kitchen screen is attached. Tell us what the second screen needs to show and we will confirm the cable and the resolution.
Does it need a fan filter or cleaning?
No, because there is no fan. Fanless cooling and a solid state drive mean there is no air being drawn through the machine, so there is no filter to service and no dust path into the electronics.
How many devices can I plug in?
Four RS232 serial, two USB 3.0, six USB 2.0, two LAN and one VGA. In practice that covers a receipt printer, a scanner, a cash drawer, a scale, a pole display, a payment terminal and a customer display with sockets to spare.
Is there room to add storage?
Yes. It ships with a 128 GB M.2 SSD and has a spare M.2 slot. That is worth knowing on a site that keeps years of transaction history locally rather than in the cloud.
What is covered by the warranty?
A 36 Months Return to Base term on the terminal. Return to base means it comes back to us, we assess it and it is repaired or replaced in Australia. Power supplies, cables and consumables sit outside warranty cover, which is standard across the category.
Replacing more than one tillOn a multi terminal order we can supply the machines with a common image so every counter is identical from the first boot. Tell us how many sites and what the current tills are and we will put a plan together before anything is despatched.
