Most point of sale hardware is black because most of it hides under a counter. This one does not. What does IP55 protect against?
Dust and low pressure water jets, on the front panel. It is the reason this terminal belongs on a counter that gets wiped down or splashed rather than dusted. It is a resistant front, not a unit to be hosed.
Is the Core i3 worth paying for in a till?
It depends what else runs on it. For one point of sale application a Celeron copes. For a till plus browser based reporting plus a payment client, the i3-7100U and its 3MB of SmartCache hold up where a Celeron slows.
Why does fanless matter so much in hospitality?
A fan is a moving part that fails, and a vent is a hole that pulls flour, steam and cooking grease into the electronics. This chassis has neither, which is also what makes the sealed front panel worth having.
