Epson TM-U220IIB Impact Receipt & Kitchen Printer (Ethernet, Auto-Cutter)
The Epson TM-U220IIB is the go-to kitchen printer for restaurants, cafes and busy hospitality venues, and this is the most popular configuration: built-in Ethernet with an auto-cutter. It uses 9-pin impact dot-matrix printing on plain bond paper, which is exactly why kitchens choose it over thermal: impact dockets stay readable in heat, steam and grease, print in two colours to highlight orders, and can run a second copy. The ribbon and power supply are included.
Key features
- Built for the kitchen: impact dot-matrix on plain bond paper produces durable dockets that survive heat, humidity and grease, where thermal receipts fade or blacken.
- Ethernet networking: connect it straight to your POS network so multiple terminals can send orders to the one kitchen printer.
- Two-colour printing: prints black and red (with the ERC-38BR ribbon) to make new items, voids or priority orders stand out.
- Auto-cutter: automatically cuts each docket so kitchen staff can grab and go.
- Original plus a copy: supports 1 original and 1 copy (2-ply paper) when you need a record as well as the kitchen docket.
- Hard to miss: the distinctive impact print sound alerts staff that an order has landed in a loud kitchen, with buffer memory to handle several orders at once.
- Ribbon and PSU included: ships with an ERC-38BR ribbon, a starter paper roll, the power supply and cable, backed by a 2-year return-to-base warranty.

Frequently asked questions
Why use an impact printer in the kitchen instead of a thermal one?
Thermal receipts darken and fade in heat and steam, so they're a poor fit next to grills and pass counters. The TM-U220IIB uses impact dot-matrix printing on plain bond paper, which stays clearly readable in hot, humid, greasy kitchens. It also prints a second copy (2-ply) and uses red as well as black to make orders stand out, which is why impact printers are the kitchen standard.
Will this work with my POS software or system?
The TM-U220IIB connects over Ethernet and uses Epson's ESC/POS commands, so it works as a kitchen or receipt printer with a wide range of POS systems. As with any POS hardware, some cloud POS apps (for example Square) only support specific models, so check this printer against your POS provider's supported-hardware list, or contact our team on 1300 026 062 and we'll confirm compatibility with your setup before you buy.
What paper and ribbon does it use?
It uses 76 mm plain bond paper rolls (not thermal paper) and an Epson ERC-38 ribbon. For two-colour black/red printing use the ERC-38BR ribbon (one is included in the box). It supports single-ply or 2-ply (original plus copy) rolls.
Can it print in red to highlight orders?
Yes. With the ERC-38BR black/red ribbon it prints in two colours, so you can highlight new items, modifiers, voids or priority dockets in red.
How do I set it up on the network?
Connect it to your network by Ethernet and assign an IP address using Epson's free EpsonNet Config or TM Utility, then add it in your POS as a network/LAN printer. If you'd like a hand, call our team on 1300 026 062.
What's in the box, and what's the warranty?
The box includes the printer, an ERC-38BR ribbon, a starter paper roll, the power supply and cable, and the user manual. It's backed by a 2-year (24-month) return-to-base warranty.
Application use cases
- Restaurant & cafe kitchens: durable dockets that survive heat and steam at the pass, cut automatically and printed in two colours.
- Dry cleaners & laundries: a long-standing favourite for printing garment tags and multi-part tickets that hold up through cleaning, pressing and steam; works with dry-cleaning POS platforms such as CleanCloud.
- Bars & QSR: the distinctive print sound alerts staff to new orders during a noisy rush.
- Workshops & automotive: reliable in greasy, demanding environments where multi-copy job dockets and long-lasting invoices matter.
- Networked multi-terminal venues: Ethernet lets several POS terminals send orders to one shared printer.
