Is the SRP-275III thermal or impact?
It is an impact (9-pin dot-matrix) printer, not thermal. It strikes an inked ribbon onto plain bond paper, which is why it is ideal for hot kitchens where thermal receipts would fade or brown.
What paper and ribbon does it use?
It uses 76mm (3") plain bond paper rolls, not thermal rolls, plus an ERC-38 compatible ribbon (Bixolon GRC-220 / ERC-30/34/38). The black-and-red ribbon gives you two-colour printing. Both are sold separately.
Does it have an auto-cutter and cash drawer port?
Yes. This model includes an auto-cutter for full or partial cuts, and a cash drawer kick-out port so you can connect a compatible cash drawer for front-of-house use.
Which interfaces does this variant have?

Will it work with my POS software?

Do I need to install a driver?
For USB connections, install the Bixolon driver before plugging the printer in. Connecting USB first is the most common cause of a printer that will not print. For Ethernet, configure the printer's IP (DHCP is supported) and add it in your POS.
Why use impact instead of thermal in a kitchen?
Thermal printouts darken and fade when exposed to heat, steam and grease, which is exactly the back-of-house environment. Impact dockets are printed with ink on bond paper, so they stay readable through a full service.
