How do I set it up over USB?
Install the Bixolon driver first, then connect the USB cable. Installing the driver before plugging in the printer is the single most common fix for a printer that will not print.
Is it a thermal or impact printer?
It is a direct thermal printer. It prints onto heat-sensitive thermal paper and needs no ink or ribbon. For a kitchen-style impact printer you would look at a different model such as the SRP-275III.
